R.V. Verma
Chairman and Managing Director, National Housing Bank

R.V. Verma is Chairman and Managing Director of National Housing Bank (NHB), a statutory body that regulates, supervises and supports the development of a sustainable housing finance system in India. Prior to joining the National Housing Bank, Mr Verma was with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) for about 10 years. At NHB, he has worked on various policy-related developments to develop the Indian mortgage market, and on policy initiatives on the regulation and supervisory oversight of housing finance companies. Mr Verma has headed the Committee constituted by the RBI on “Development of Residential Mortgage Backed Securities”, and played a key role in the launch of pilot issues of Mortgage Backed Securities in the country. Mr Verma is also the Central Registrar in a government company, Central Registry of Securitisation Asset Reconstruction And Security Interest of India, and Chairman of the India Mortgage Guarantee Corporation Pvt. Ltd., India’s first mortgage guarantee company. In addition, he is Chairman of the Asia-Pacific Union for Housing Finance, a representative body of lead mortgage finance institutions/housing finance regulators, including the central banks of some Asia-Pacific countries. Mr Verma holds post-graduate degrees in Economics and Business Administration (Finance). He is a Certified Associate of the Indian Institute of Bankers.
