M. Narendra
Chairman and Managing Director, Indian Overseas Bank

M. Narendra, 58, has been Chairman and Managing Director of Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) since November 1, 2010. He was a member from 2009 to 2011 of the Reserve Bank of India’s Technical Advisory Committee on Money, Foreign Exchange and Government Securities Markets. He is chairman of ASSOCHAM’s National Council for Banking and Finance, and chairman of the Indian Banks’ Association’s Finance Committee, Legal & Banking Operations Committee and Standing Committee on Accounting Standards and Taxation. Mr Narendra is a director on the boards of India International Bank (Malaysia), and Universal Sompo General Insurance Co. Ltd. Prior to joining IOB, Mr Narendra was Executive Director at Bank of India, where he personally oversaw the development of 27 out of 48 zones of the bank, and was responsible for such vital portfolios as Risk Management, Information Technology, Inspection and Audit, and General Operations. A veteran banker with 37 years’ experience, Mr Narendra started out as an officer trainee in 1975 at Corporation Bank. He earned a bachelor’s degree in Law and Commerce, and is a Certified Member of the Indian Institute of Bankers.
