Tom Mitchell
South China Correspondent, Financial Times
Tom Mitchell is the South China Correspondent for the Financial Times, based in Hong Kong. A graduate of Duke University and former Fulbright scholar, Mr Mitchell has lived and worked in South China since 1992. He began his journalism career with the Economist Intelligence Unit, a subsidiary of the London-based Economist Group, in 1996. In 2000, Mr Mitchell began a three-year posting as Guangzhou bureau chief for the South China Morning Post, becoming the first western newspaper correspondent to be based in South China since 1949. He returned to Hong Kong in January 2003 and served another three years as the Post's deputy business editor before joining the FT in 2006. In 2007, Mr Mitchell was among a group of FT journalists who won the Society of Publishers in Asia award for 'Scoop of the Year'.
