The Foundation for Effective Governance (FEG) is a Ukrainian public policy institution founded in 2007 by Rinat Akhmetov. FEG's main objective is to encourage the development of long-term national economic programs for Ukraine, through the formulation of practical policy solutions to the political, economic and social challenges facing the country.

FEG is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization committed to serving the overall interests of the people of Ukraine. The work of FEG is guided by the principle that sustainable economic growth is essential to improving the quality of life of all Ukrainians.  By assisting policy makers and stakeholders at all levels to design and implement actionable public policy solutions, encouraging debate, and building public and political consensus, FEG hopes to play a positive role in impacting the future growth and prosperity of Ukraine.

Ukraine today is firmly set on the path of economic and democratic progress. However, the country is still far from realizing its full social and economic potential.  FEG has recognized the need to create and implement long-term economic and social developmentprograms. It also seeks to facilitate this objective by studying best practices and democratic processes from international leaders, including the United States and Western European countries.

To ensure its independence, FEG has established a distinguished International Advisory Board comprised of renowned and well-respected global leaders, led by former Prime Minister of Canada Kim Campbell, Chair.  Their experience and expertise guides and shapes the work of FEG.  By facilitating a systematic dialogue among its international experts, government, business, civil society organizations and the media, FEG is working to develop practical and sustainable proposals and recommendations that will lead to successful and beneficial outcomes for all Ukrainians.

Currently, FEG is focused on the following key programs:

  • Preparing Ukraine's economic reform and development agenda and developing crisis control measures for the Ukrainian economy
  • Studying and analyzing Ukraine's competitiveness on both a national and regional level
  • Implementing regional economic development projects in Western and Eastern Ukraine
  • Organizing a series of public debates on economic and business topics in Ukraine
Ultimately, FEG has as its highest priority the improvement of the quality of life of every Ukrainian citizen.  Its aim is to foster foreign investment and promote economic policy reform.  It also seeks to establish a proven track record of designing public policy programs that reach beyond election cycles to bring forth economic stability, continuity, and positive and lasting change to Ukraine.
