Dr Samantha Du
Founder and Former CEO, Hutchison MediPharma Ltd
Dr. Du founded and became Chief Executive Officer of Hutchison MediPharma Limited (HMPL) in 2002. Under her leadership, the company has emerged as the China's premier biotech, with a rich pipeline of innovative molecules for oncology and autoimmune diseases. She also co-founded Hutchison China MediTech (HCM) in 2001 and was a major architect in its initial public offering on London's AIM in May 2006. Prior to her career as an entrepreneur, Dr. Du held positions as Executive Vice President of healthcare investments at Hutchison Whampoa, and as Team Leader of Pfizer's global metabolic disease licensing. She began her research career at Pfizer Global R&D in Connecticut, and involved in the development of both early and late stage programs, two of which launched globally. She received her Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Cincinnati. Dr. Du is an active advisor on healthcare and biotech policy issues for various government agencies and research institutions in China. She is also a visiting professor at the Fudan University. Dr. Du has received numerous recognitions and awards for her pioneering contributions, including the 2009 China's Outstanding Entrepreneur, the 2011 IBC China R&D Leadership Award, and the Shanghai's 2010 Magnolia Award.
