FT-PAUL HASTINGS ASIAN CENTURY FORUM
Maximising Investment Opportunities and Strategic Partnerships
16 February 2012  Park Hyatt, Beijing

Building on the success of last year's inaugural Asian Century Forum in New York, the Financial Times and Paul Hastings, in association with China International Capital Corp (CICC), will bring together senior policy-makers, financial and corporate decision-makers and key advisors from China and beyond to share their insights on the investment and partnership opportunities surrounding expansion of Chinese business abroad, and the challenges that need to be overcome for those opportunities to be maximised.

Overview
China is at the epicentre of a shift in economic, financial and geo-political power from West to East that some are calling the Asian Century. While Western multinationals and financial institutions have long courted the booming mainland market as an essential source of demand and growth, increasing attention is now being placed on China's growing global influence and its own outward investment. Flush with cash and hungry for commodities, energy, technology and other assets, including global brands, Chinese companies - whether state-owned or private - are in a massive international acquisition phase. How should investors and regulators in China and overseas position themselves to maximise the potential of this substantial capital outflow?
  • Already some Western private equity investors are tying up with Chinese state-owned entities to support expansionary Chinese firms. How can such strategic partnerships be optimised?
  • What elements have to be in place for a successful international M&A strategy and what are the risks?
  • Are regulatory environments conducive to Chinese growth abroad, or is economic weakness and waning competitiveness in the West encouraging a protectionist stance?
  • How should opportunities around Chinese overseas expansion be balanced against the continuing potential of China's domestic market?
  • What impact will the internationalisation of the renminbi have on Chinese outward investment?
  • To what extent will the current period of global economic instability affect the flow of Chinese capital abroad?
