Ravi Vish
Director and Chief Economist, Economics and Policy Group, Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA)
Ravi Vish joined the Multilateral Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA) in September of 2010 as Director of the agency's Economics and Policy Group. MIGA is the political risk insurance arm of the World Bank Group.
Mr Vish oversees teams responsible for assessing project and country risks; ensuring projects that MIGA insures are developmentally sound; and verifying that project operations are consistent with good economic policy and sustainable for the host country - as well as financially sustainable for MIGA.
Mr Vish has over 30 years of experience encompassing private sector development in emerging markets, private equity, investment banking, and project finance. In particular, he previously held senior positions with the World Bank Group's International Finance Corporation (IFC), most recently as CFO in Global Financial Markets, CIO/Manager in Global Information Communications and Technology, and CIO in Asia Financial Markets.
Previously, Mr Vish was Director and Senior Portfolio Advisor at DuPont Capital Management, as well as CEO, General Partner, and Chairman of the Investment Committee at WestLB Mellon Asset Management (USA). He has also served as Director and Head of Corporate Finance at Natwest Markets in Indonesia as well as at ING Barings in India. He joined the financial services industry in 1978 as a projects officer at the Liberian Bank for Development and Investment and Mellon Bank in Monrovia.
Mr Vish holds a master's of business administration, a master's degree in computer science from the University of Pennsylvania, and a post-graduate diploma in management from the Indian Institute of Management. His bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering is from the Indian Institute of Technology. He is the author of a book entitled "The Political, Economic, and Labor Climate in India."
