Tyler Brűlé
Editor in Chief, Monocle and Columnist, Financial Times
Born in Canada and based in the UK for the past 15 years, Tyler Brűlé began his career as a reporter for the BBC, before turning to print journalism where he wrote for The Guardian, Stern, The Sunday Times and Vanity Fair.
In 1996 Mr Brűlé launched Wallpaper*, a title that became a publishing success, going onto sell in over 50 countries. The magazine won numerous awards for its design, international relevance and use of typography, and in 2001 Mr Brűlé became the youngest ever recipient of the British Society of Magazine Editors Lifetime Achievement Award.
In May 2002 Mr Brűlé sold his stake in Wallpaper* to focus on developing Winkreative, the full-service branding and design agency he set up in 1998. The agency is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Swiss parent company Winkorp AG, which Mr Brűlé founded in 2002. The award-winning business is distinguished by its international focus, editorial authority and global reach. Past and present clients include Swiss International Airlines, Stella McCartney, TOTO, Tag Heuer, American Express, Porter Airlines, B&B Italia, Sky News and British Airways.
In 2005 Mr Brűlé made a return to his broadcast roots with Winkontent, the editorial and TV production arm of Winkorp, creating and hosting two television series for BBC 4, The Desk and Counter Culture.
In February 2007, Mr Brűlé launched Monocle, the second ground-breaking publication of his career. Created for an audience that existing media models ignore, Monocle is an international media brand that combines print, web, retail and broadcast components. Published ten times a year and with bureaux in London, New York, Zurich and Tokyo, Monocle is a global briefing on current affairs, business, culture and design.
