Summit Overview
Brazil's economy is slowly weathering the world recession, thanks in part to a stable financial system, liberalised markets, improved fiscal and monetary policies which control inflation, bountiful natural resources, a diversified export mix and a strong local investor base. Though GDP fell slightly in the first quarter, May saw $2.4bn in FDI flowing into the country. The largest emerging markets are expected to recover faster from global economic turbulence than the more industrialised ones, with Brazil forecast to grow above the world average, making it a promising region for investors.

The FT Investing in Brazil Summit, being held in partnership with Valor Econômico, featured key insights from President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, senior government officials, Brazilian and international business leaders, and decision-makers from the financial industry. The exclusive, invitation-only half-day event in London allowed all to network and benefit from insightful perspectives on Brazil's economic trends, political outlook and investment opportunities.

Critical issues explored included:
- What are Brazil's future economic prospects?
- Which sectors and industries have great growth potential?
- Why is Brazil such a promising region for investors?
- What financial incentives have been put into place to overcome the challenges of the credit crisis?
