From the Hospital to the Home
Addressing 21st Century Challenges for Creating Patient-Centric Care
21 May 2009, London, UK

Patient focus might be the new mantra of governments around the world as they struggle to address the issues of rising costs, and the growing demands of patients for control, choice and convenience, but how does 'customer centricity' translate in the healthcare environment? What are the broader implications for incumbent healthcare systems, and the opportunities for new market entrants? What are the principle impediments to realising the vision of patient-focussed care, and how can they be addressed?

Chaired by Andrew Jack, Pharmaceuticals and Healthcare Correspondent of the Financial Times, the meeting will draw together leading clinical experts, government decision makers and healthcare providers to discuss and debate the economic and business models for the new era of patient centric care, and the implications for the future of healthcare delivery.

Themes to be addressed will include:

  • How are patients' behaviours attitudes and unmet needs evolving?  What are the opportunities of patient-centric healthcare delivery to the principle stakeholders: doctors, hospitals, care management organisations, payors, retailers, pharmacies and patients?

  • What are the economic and business models for a new era of patient-focussed care? Will payors support new, patient -focussed healthcare and homecare delivery models?

  • What are the new workplace and skills requirements, and how will the care providers adapt to the new challenges and opportunities?

  • Where is the principle impediment to the delivery of healthcare in the home, and in emerging retail environments?

  • What are the risks and opportunities in the new era of patient-centric care: how are confidentiality, liability and security issues being addressed?

  • What is the real potential for costs savings, and the potential for easing the burden of escalating healthcare costs from the patient-focussed healthcare model?
