Carl Hughes
Global Event, Energy & Resources, Deloitte

Carl is the global head of Deloitte’s Energy & Resources practice.  He is a senior audit partner, based in London, with nearly 30 years’ experience of the oil & gas, mining and utilities industries focusing principally on the provision of audit, due diligence, transaction support and advisory services.  

He has experience of working with Boards to help identify and address issues and risks in their businesses including matters related to governance, organisation, finance, risk and M&A, including many large FTSE100 companies such as Anglo American, Antofagasta, Drax, Glencore, Severn Trent, Tullow Oil and Vedanta.  He has also served the management teams of some of the largest private energy and resources companies such as Perenco.

In addition, he has experience of advising both Government and Opposition on UK energy policy matters, including with regard to UK oil & gas fiscal, infrastructure and licensing policy and the restructuring of British Energy.

Given his breadth of experience in the energy and resources industry, he brings an informed view drawn from hands-on experience in many different geographies and cultures across Europe, the Middle East, the CIS, India, Africa and the Americas.

Carl originally joined Arthur Andersen in 1983 after graduating from St Peter’s College, Oxford with an MA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics.  He became a partner in 1993 and joined Deloitte in 2002.
