Canada has a dynamic advanced manufacturing sector that is highly regarded for its capabilities. Canada is the base of operations for leading corporations in industries such as automotive, aerospace and defense, which have gained worldwide recognition for their expertise and performance in the sector.
A world leader in regional aircraft, flight simulators, satellite technologies and landing gear systems, Canada's aerospace industry is home to more than 400 aerospace manufacturing and service companies. Its automotive industry, home to more than 350 assembly and parts companies, is Canada's largest manufacturing sector, with 2.3 million units of installed production capacity, accounting for 17 per cent of North American vehicle production. Canada is also highly competitive in the machinery and equipment manufacturing sector, attracting interest from international investors in segments such as mining, oil & gas drilling equipment, metalworking and agricultural machinery.
In a drive to further strengthen the country's competitiveness in the sector, the Government of Canada is pursuing an economic strategy designed to create the conditions for businesses in Canada to succeed on a global scale. This drive is being supported by Canada's economic stability, robust banking system and relatively low corporate taxes. At the centre are key investments and initiatives designed to reinforce Canada's position in advanced manufacturing.
The Financial Times in partnership with the Government of Canada will bring together senior policy-makers and global business leaders for a forward looking and insightful discussion about Canada's advanced manufacturing sector, its key areas of growth, the challenges and emerging investment opportunities.
Discussion Topics Include:
- What are the latest market innovations and emerging trends impacting the advanced manufacturing sector globally?
- What are today's key drivers behind foreign investment decisions in automotive, aerospace & defense companies?
- What are the advantages for businesses looking to establish or expand their operations in Canada?
- With emergent players in the global economy such as China, India and Brazil, what more can Canada do to attract the attention of business investors and remain competitive?
- How do Canada's incentives, labour pool and industry clusters compare to those of other potential destinations for investors?
